Introduction

The Mle 50 is an early Cold War era pistol of French origin. It was developed in the late 1940's and became the standard French police and military sidearm. The Mle 50 is short for Modèle 1950, or model of 1950.

Design

The design of the Mle 50 is based on the earlier Mle 35S pistol. It is a single action pistol that uses a Browning-like short recoil system. The pistol is fully made out of metal with the exception of the plastic grip plates.

Firepower

The Mle 50 is a semi-automatic pistol. It fires the 9x19mm round from a single stack 9 round magazine. The effective range is a few dozen meters.

Users

The Mle 50 was adopted by the French police and military. The Mle 50 was used during several conflicts involving French forces and was exported to French allies, mostly former colonies. Most users have replaced the Mle 50 with more modern designs.
