Introduction
The SSG-3000 is a bolt action sniper rifle of Swiss origin. It was specifically developed for law enforcement use. The SSG-3000 is not directly derived from the older SSG-2000, but many lessons have been incorporated in its design.
Design
The design of the SSG-3000 is based on the SIG 200STR target rifle. It uses the same modified Mauser type bolt-action mechanism. The stock on the original models is made of fiber glass, while the newer production models feature a composite stock. A US pattern scope mount is used, which is replaced by a Picatinny rail on newer models. Backup iron sights are not present.
Firepower
The SSG-3000 fires the 7.62x51mm round from a single stack 5 round detachable magazine. Sub-MOA accuracy can be achieved. The maximum effective range is claimed to be 1.000 meters, however as a law enforcement weapon operational ranges are generally 150 to 300 meters.
Users
The SSG-3000 is used by many law enforcement units, especially in Europe and the USA.
SSG-3000
The SSG-3000 is a bolt action sniper rifle that fires the 7.62x51mm round. It uses a 6 lug bolt action system with a very light firing pin. This makes the SSG-3000 both strong and responsive. The SSG-3000 can be easily identified by its unique white plastic stock with large slots in the forearm. A large flash hider with longitudinal slots is permanently attached to the barrel. Backup sights are not available.

SSG-3000TR
The SSG-3000TR is the current production version. The TR suffix stands for Tactical Rifle. In the mid 2000's the SSG-3000 design was improved since the design became somewhat dated. The ballistic performance remains similar as the same mechanism and barrel are used. The most obvious changes are the use of a dark McMillan composite chassis and a Picatinny rail as a scope mount. The new pattern flash hider only has upward slots in order to minimize the movement of the rifle after each shot.
