Introduction

The SR-25 is a sniper rifle of US origin. It was designed in the early 1990’s by the US based Knights Armament Company. The SR-25 is known for its accuracy and it is easy to use by those accustomed to AR-15 type rifles.

Design

The SR-25 is an AR-15 chambered in the 7.62x51mm round and in effect is a heavily modified Stoner AR-10. The direct impingement system allows for good accuracy and all versions are fitted with free floating heavy match barrels. A Picatinny sight rail is fitted on all versions and late production models feature a quad rail forearm for mount accessories.

Firepower

The SR-25 is a semi-automatic rifle that fires the 7.62x51mm NATO round from 10 or 20 round magazines. With proper ammunition sub MOA accuracy can be achieved. The effective range is quoted to be over 800 meters.

Users

At first the SR-25 was only sold to civilians but recent conflicts have shown the need for semi-automatic marksman and sniper rifles. The SR-25 is now widely used by the US military and foreign operators.

Variants

SR-25

The SR-25 Match rifle is the standard version of the SR-25 family. It features a full length 610 mm barrel without flash hider. The SR-25 lightweight match rifle has a 508 mm barrel and became the standard version. These early versions of the SR-25 had a clean round forearm. Recent production models are designated SR-25 Enhanced Match Rifle and have a quad rail forearm that is similar to the one used on the Mk. 11 military model.

The SR-25K is a variant of the SR-25 Carbine and looks more like an assault rifle. It features a retractable stock, backup iron sights and a flash hider. The latest model is the SR-25 Enhanced Match Carbine, which is similar to the SR-25K but features a quad rail for mounting accessories.
